Credit Relief

Credit Relief, optional payment protection at signing

Credit Relief is an optional payment protection plan you can add when you sign for your vehicle loan. It is chosen at the dealership, never required for loan approval, and declining it never changes your application. Terms and conditions apply, and the certificate of insurance is the document that actually sets your coverage, limits and exclusions.

What Credit Relief is

Credit Relief is an insurance product, not a feature built into the loan itself. It is marketed by The Protection Centre, administered by Reinsurance Management Associates, Inc., and underwritten by Canadian Premier Life Insurance Company, part of Securian Canada.

You choose it at the dealership when you sign your loan paperwork, and it sits alongside the loan rather than inside it. usedcarnearme.ca is a referral service here, not an insurer or an insurance agent, and the certificate of insurance is what actually governs your coverage.

What it can protect

Credit Relief lets you choose to protect your monthly payments, your loan balance, or both, depending on what matters most in your situation.

Payment protection can step in if you lose your job or become disabled and cannot work, covering up to six months of payments per claim while you get back on your feet. The certificate of insurance sets out which situations qualify.

Balance protection can pay out what remains on the loan if you die or are diagnosed with a covered critical illness, so that debt does not become someone else's problem.

  • Job loss or disability, up to six months of payments per claim
  • Death or a covered critical illness, protection for the remaining loan balance

The Credit Relief Essentials option

Credit Relief also comes in a narrower version called Credit Relief Essentials, for a buyer who wants a smaller scope of protection. Credit Relief Essentials covers accidental death, accidental disability and job loss, without the fuller list of benefits in the standard plan.

Which version fits depends on your situation and your budget, and The Protection Centre can walk you through the difference before you sign.

If you would rather hand back the vehicle

Instead of drawing monthly benefits, Credit Relief also offers a vehicle sell back option. Rather than claiming payments, you can choose to return the vehicle, and the plan covers the shortfall between what the vehicle sells for and what you still owe on the loan.

This route is designed to protect your credit during a hard stretch, since the loan gets resolved instead of falling behind on payments you cannot make.

Thirty days to change your mind

If you cancel within 30 days of the effective date, the full premium is refunded to the creditor. That gives you a real window to read the certificate of insurance carefully and decide whether the coverage fits before the cost becomes final.

Why it stays optional

Credit Relief is optional and chosen at signing with the dealership. It is never required for loan approval, and declining it never affects your application in any way, now or later.

usedcarnearme.ca is a referral service, not an insurer or an insurance agent. We do not decide claims and we do not set the terms; the certificate of insurance issued for Credit Relief sets out the actual coverage, limits, exclusions and eligibility.
