AutoCapital Canada car loans for newcomers and the self-employed

AutoCapital Canada is an Ontario-based non-prime auto lender with two programs we lean on constantly: one for newcomers to Canada with little or no Canadian credit, and one for self-employed buyers whose income does not come on a pay stub. It lends through dealers in Ontario and Quebec.

Who AutoCapital Canada is

AutoCapital Canada is an independent auto finance company headquartered in Ontario that funds loans arranged by dealerships. Its programs target buyers the banks are not yet ready for: people recently arrived in Canada, people who work for themselves, and people rebuilding after a credit problem. It is not a bank and does not pretend to price like one; its rates reflect the risk it takes on files with little or no history.

What it does well is say yes early. A newcomer with a work permit, a job and a few months in the country has almost no file for a bank to read. AutoCapital reads the status, the job and the down payment instead, and approves on that.

The files AutoCapital approves

Two programs, and a general non-prime book behind them.

  • Newcomers with permanent residence or a work permit valid well into the loan term, a job in Canada, and a down payment. No Canadian credit history is required.
  • Self-employed and gig workers with three to six months of bank statements showing deposits, with or without a notice of assessment.
  • Buyers with bruised credit and steady income who were declined by a bank's non-prime arm.
  • A vehicle within AutoCapital's age and mileage limits; the vehicle budget follows the tier.

What AutoCapital looks at

On a newcomer file: proof of status and its expiry, a job letter or pay stubs, proof of address, and the down payment. Status that runs out before the loan does is the most common reason a newcomer file is shortened or declined. On a self-employed file: bank deposits, their regularity and their size relative to the payment. On both, the vehicle is checked against program limits and the payment is held to a share of income.

What an AutoCapital approval looks like

A tier, a payment ceiling, a vehicle budget and a term. The rate is non-prime. The loan reports monthly to Equifax and TransUnion, and it is open for early payout. For a newcomer, that reporting is the product: twelve clean payments create the Canadian credit history that did not exist, and at that point a refinance toward a bank, often CIBC or TD, becomes realistic.

How to improve your odds with AutoCapital

These are the levers we see matter most.

  • Status with at least a year or two of validity remaining, or permanent residence. Renewals in progress should be documented.
  • A down payment. On a newcomer or self-employed file it is the strongest single factor.
  • Clean bank statements: regular deposits, no bounced payments, no overdraft, for the months the lender reviews.
  • A modest first vehicle. Approval comes more easily on a sensible car, and the rate on the next one will be better.

AutoCapital where you live

AutoCapital lends in both provinces. For a newcomer, the practical differences are the licence exchange, Ontario or Quebec, and registration: ServiceOntario with HST, or SAAQ with GST plus QST plus the inspection if the car crosses the river. We sequence the licence, the inspection and the loan so a newcomer who arrived recently can drive legally and insured from day one. In Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador the same program applies; the purchase follows that province's rules, with HST at 14 or 15 percent, a current provincial inspection and registration at the provincial registry, and we handle that paperwork the same way.

When we place a file elsewhere

A newcomer who already meets the bank's bar, with a CIBC or TD account, time on the job and a down payment, should be at the bank, and we present there first. A self-employed buyer with two years of returns and clean credit belongs at a bank too. A bruised file with no newcomer or self-employed angle is often better tiered at Scotia Dealer Advantage or iA Auto Finance, and Quantifi is the other flexible-income option when AutoCapital's program does not fit, reading bank-account activity rather than a pay stub.

Questions

Questions people actually ask

Can I get a car loan from AutoCapital Canada with no Canadian credit history?

Yes. The newcomer program reads status, employment and down payment instead of a credit file. Status should outlast a good part of the loan.

Does AutoCapital accept self-employed income without a notice of assessment?

Often, on three to six months of bank statements showing regular deposits. A notice of assessment strengthens the file but is not always required.

Will I be stuck with a high rate?

No. The loan is open and reports to both bureaus. Most newcomers refinance toward a bank rate after a year of clean payments.
